10 Verses to Guide You in Trusting God

Trusting God is easy to talk about when everything is going well. It becomes much harder when we have prayed and still do not have an answer, when a situation is moving in the wrong direction, or when we cannot see how things are going to work out.

I believe that trust is not simply a peaceful feeling that settles over us when we pray. Sometimes we still feel unsettled and sometimes we still have questions. Trusting God means we're deciding that He is dependable even when our circumstances are difficult to live with.

Trusting even means admitting that we don't always know what's best for our lives. We might see what's happening today, but God sees the entire road ahead. We want immediate answers, quick relief, and clear instructions, but God may be asking us to keep walking with Him one step at a time.

When you're struggling to release a situation, or when your mind keeps returning to the same concern and you're trying to understand what God has yet to explain, there are Bible verses that I believe will be a good place for you to begin.

1. Proverbs 3:5–6

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

2. Psalm 56:3–4

“What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.”

3. Psalm 37:5

“Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.”

4. Isaiah 26:3–4

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength.”

5. Jeremiah 17:7–8

“Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.”

6. Psalm 9:10

“And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.”

7. Nahum 1:7

“The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.”

8. Psalm 62:8

“Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us.”

9. Isaiah 41:10

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

10. Psalm 28:7

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.”

You Can Trust God, Starting with One Day at a Time

I wish I could say that after years of walking with God, trusting Him always comes easily to me. It doesn’t. There's still situations I want to understand before I surrender them and times when I pray and then pick the concern right back up, turning it over in my mind as though worrying long enough will finally produce an answer.

But what I'm learning is that we don't have to understand everything God is doing in order to trust who He is.

We can be honest about being afraid. We can admit that we don't know what comes next. We can even ask God for wisdom, make the best decision that we know to make, and still leave room for Him to lead us differently. Trust doesn't require us to act as if the situation is easy. It requires us to stop treating ourselves as though we're the only ones holding everything in place.

Sometimes trusting God is taking that bold step of faith. Other times, it's getting through the day without letting fear control your thoughts. Trust is deciding to pray again, open your Bible again, obeying what you already know, and refusing to walk away from God just because you don't understand His plan yet.

We may not know what God will do in every situation, but we know He is faithful. And when we can't see the whole road ahead, we can still trust our God who does. Remember, He will always come through for you as you trust Him more, day by day.
