If you've been struggling with anger and you need the wisdom of the Bible to guide you, I want to share Bible verses that may help you learn how to deal with your anger in a Godly way.

Feeling angry rarely stands alone because it's often intertwined with feelings of disappointment, hurt, being overlooked, or feeling like things are out of your control. Sometimes it comes out in explosive ways and other times, it builds inwardly, growing into resentment, irritation, or a quick temper that's just waiting to surface in our daily interactions.

If we leave anger unexamined or unmanaged, it warps our thinking and we can end up treating others in ways that can be harmful.

God’s wisdom offers not only guidance but hope for self-control and humility. Read these passages and notice what they reveal about the cause of anger and the paths it can follow if it’s not resolved.

Remember that we can always bring our anger before God in prayer. He understands our feelings because He also faced situations that tested His emotions. Trust the Lord to guide you through what’s happening and help you take small, consistent steps toward overcoming. God can truly provide a path to healing and wholeness in your emotions.

1. Proverbs 14:29

“One who is slow to anger has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered exalts foolishness.”

When we resist acting in anger we’re using wisdom. Being slow to anger means we're taking time to process what’s happening before reacting. Give God time and space to work within you. His wisdom is available to guide your actions and decisions.

2. Ecclesiastes 7:9

“Do not be eager in your heart to be angry, for anger resides in the heart of fools.”

Anger that lingers becomes a place of residence, blinding us to the attitudes and responses God desires for us. Deal with it early, before it becomes a defining part of how you think or react.

3. James 1:19–20

“This you know, my beloved brothers and sisters. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger; for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God.”

Human anger often moves faster than understanding. It reacts before listening and speaks before thinking. Wait a moment, then let what you recall from God’s Word guide your response instead of letting emotions take the lead.

4. Ephesians 4:26–27

“Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil an opportunity.”

Anger itself is not automatically sin. The danger comes from what we let it leads us to do. Holding onto anger for too long can invite bitterness, division, and harmful thoughts. We must focus on resolution and awareness so that anger doesn't cause more harm than the problem that sparked it.

5. Proverbs 15:1

“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

How we respond can make a big difference. Anger often grows through words more than the situation itself. A harsh reply can fuel the fire, while a calm one can help cool things down. Keeping control over what we say can change the course of things.

Anger doesn't always point to what is wrong around us. Often, it points to something unresolved within us. These verses show that anger needs to be addressed, not buried. There's wisdom in the Bible to help us slow down, gain understanding, and keep anger from leading us away from Godly character or wise choices.

Return to these verses whenever you need to. They offer guidance for moments when your emotions run high. Let Scripture speak into your anger and help you grow in faith and respond in healthier ways.
