Homemaking is real. It’s not always pretty, and it’s not always easy. Between long days, family needs, and the constant pull of life, sometimes it feels like there’s no time left to care for what God has placed in our hands. This is why I've decided to share some posts on, Christian Homemaking 101. My hope is to walk beside you through the kind of lessons that bring both your heart and home back into alignment with God’s order. Sometimes you just need another woman to say, “I get it," and to remind you that even in those messy moments of homemaking, God still cares about the details and about you.

In this first post of my 4-part series, I want to talk about something that still matters deeply to God—order.

Many believers separate the spiritual from the natural, as if one has nothing to do with the other. But the way we handle our homes says something about how we handle what God has placed in our care. The dishes, the laundry, or the papers piling on the table may not seem spiritual, but they speak of stewardship. Homemaking isn’t beneath us; it’s part of the order God designed.

When things around us stay in order, it gives our spirit room to breathe. We learn to have respect for what God has entrusted us with. Your home doesn't have to look like one from a magazine, but it does need to feel like a clean and peaceful place that you're proud to call home. Our homes are often the first ministry we as women tend to, and order still matters to God.

God Has Always Worked Through Order

From the beginning, God set things in place before He filled them. Genesis shows His nature in motion. Remember there was light before there was life and boundaries before blessings. Everything He created followed a pattern, and that pattern reflected His character.

Paul told the church in Corinth, “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace” (1 Corinthians 14:33). God doesn’t dwell in disorder. He never moves through cluttered motives or careless hands. He sets things in place so that His will can flow freely.

As you understand this more, homemaking goes beyond just chores. It becomes obedience to how God wants you to care for a gift He's given you. And that leads to your actions becoming a true reflection of His loving ways.

Order in the Home Reflects Order in the Heart

Your home doesn't get disorganized overnight. Things start small. One corner left undone, one task put off, one day you're too tired to care. Before you realize it, the home that once felt manageable starts to weigh you down.

Often, what’s seen in the home mirrors what’s happening inside. When our hearts feel neglected, our surroundings follow. But when we take the time to bring things back in order (with the help of our family) we begin to see how structure brings a calm, steady flow of peace. We can think clearer and serve our families with a better focus.

This doesn’t mean a spotless home equals holiness, but it does mean your care for what God has given shows something about your devotion to Him.

A quote by Jessica Frazier Bible Time for Busy Women

If Things Fall Out of Place

Remember, disorder doesn't stay quiet for long. It affects our thinking, our attitude, and even the atmosphere of our homes. If things are left undone for too long, frustration starts to set in. Small irritations grow, and it gets harder for us to love doing the things that matter most in our homes.

It's not always because of laziness either. Sometimes it’s spiritual. The enemy loves distraction and if he can fill your mind with unfinished tasks, he can pull your attention away from God. But it's when we start setting things back in place that we actually push back against that spirit of disorder. We reclaim what belongs to God and bring our homes under His authority again.

In Exodus 40, Moses followed every instruction God gave for building the tabernacle. Every piece had a place. Every lamp, curtain, and vessel was arranged just as the Lord said. When Moses finished setting everything in order, then the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.

That same principle still holds true. When we honor God through order, we prepare a place where His presence can rest. Not in spotless rooms or fancy design; but in our intention. A home that is cared for with reverence is one that will always welcome God’s peace.

How to Re-establish Order in Taking Care of Your Home

If order has slipped, I always love to say: start simple. Don’t try to fix everything overnight. You'll just exhaust yourself.

  • Begin in areas where it was easy to ignore things (corners, closets, etc.)

  • Handle one task as an act of obedience (before moving on to another).

  • Ask God for physical and mental strength to finish what you start.

  • Keep a steady habit that honors Him with consistency.

Take those steps and believe in yourself to take care of what God has gifted you with. He really does honor your effort.

Remember, order still matters to God because His nature has never changed. He is steady, consistent, and intentional in everything He does. A woman who tends her home with care reflects a God who leaves nothing undone.

At times, you will grow tired. Sometimes, I do. You'll put some things off until the next day. Sometimes I do, too. It happens. But because of God's grace, when we call out to Him for strength, He responds and gives us wisdom to pace ourselves and do what we can, one step at a time. Every time we fold a blanket, wipe a counter, or bring something back where it belongs, remember we’re practicing His loving character. How beautiful! And that's when our homes become a place where God's presence isn’t just welcomed, it’s expected.

I hope this message of love resonates with your heart today and that you’ll put these practices in place to honor God more in your home.
